May 28, 2020 ☼ life

I’m going to be moving soon. Not like the, I’m restarting my life” kind of move, and not even the I got a job in a new city” kind of move. My next apartment is only two miles away, which translates to about a 20 minute bus ride.

I’m very happy to finally move. My current apartment is mostly fine, but two years within it and three years downtown have left me frazzled. The main benefit to living in downtown is access. As someone who doesn’t own a car, I have an ever ambient de-buff to access, so living where all the buses run is extremely convenient. Downtown here is also right in-between three of the most popular neighborhoods for people my age, so forget the bus, I can just walk to most of the places I’d want to go anyway.

However, access for me is also access for thee. A lot of things go through downtown:

The last one is what’s getting me the most. I have the privilege of living next to an active construction site for the city’s upcoming transit center. I’m sure it’ll be absolutely fantastic when it’s done in 2047, but until then, it’s just loud machinery every morning at the crack of dawn, as well as plenty of dirt and dust being knocked into the air. Lucky me then that my current apartment has is fantastic at retaining heat, and only has one opening window. Either I wilt with in my hot, stuffy apartment, or I open the window for circulation, also opening myself to plenty of noise and dust every morning.

This has always been bad, but due to the recent PLOT_ELEMENT going around, I’ve been stuck here pretty much every day, rather than free to escape to my workplace or a café. Every morning of the two months has been miserable. Thank god I caved and invested in noise-canceling audio equipment. Now instead of suffering along, I can suffer with a muted Merlin Mann floating around my noggin.
