☼ life
I’ve moved! Give me a second though, my watch is yelling at me to inject some Flonase into my sinuses…
…alright I’m back! I moved in Friday, June 12th, and as of earlier today I’ve essentially unpacked everything. The last bit of work I need to do is to plug my speakers into my desktop computer, but that’s awaiting some new hardware so I’ll skip it and consider things done regardless.
Let’s talk cons and pros now that I’ve been here for a little over a week!
Cons
- Talking about Flonase, my nasal congestion has not completely gone away. I could potentially argue that it’s better, but that might just be because my apartment is cleaner since I just moved in. Guess I’ll still have to go to the doctor some point to discuss it.
- Talking about clean, the floor was very dirty when I moved in! Lots of dirt and random detriment collecting on my feet as I walked around. I don’t know if this is just how the apartment arrived or if it was because of the moving process, but it was quite annoying. Relieved once my replacement vacuum filters came in and I could just clean up the whole place.
- These shades suck! They look super cool and modern, but they somehow fail the general purpose of shades. The living room shades do a good job at light and heat management, but they have just enough visibility to make me uncomfortable. The bedroom has the opposite issue–visibility is blocked out enough to be comfortable, but it lets in enough light such that the bedroom never really reaches pitch black at night, and stays plenty lit during the day. All my issues might just be because I’m on the second floor though, if I was on a higher floor the light issues might not be resolved but the visibility and privacy issues would be lessened.
- No drawers sucks, lots of kitchen tools and utensils are traditionally stored flat and I’ve had to find alternative configurations–basically more cups and hooks. It’s actually not too bad (and looks kind of nice to have everything out of cabinets) but I’m worried about them getting messy during high-energy cooking sessions.
- I wish the wall I have my computer desk against had an ethernet port. There are so many ethernet ports in this place, but only one of them is in a usable location given my configuration.
- The bedroom closet is too small. It makes me seriously consider buying a dresser, which never used to be an issue.
- The A/C for whatever reason has trouble reaching the bedroom, so I end up having to leave it on longer than I’d prefer. I won’t be receiving the electricity bill for a while apparently, so we’ll see how much that costs me.
- Things are still slow because of COVID-19, but there’s much less walkable from where I am now than where I was prior. Like, there’s some stuff nearby that’s OK but I much preferred the accessibility of downtown Seattle. Once the buses go back to normal schedule though, the 10 and 12 should be pretty good at bringing me to most places that I’d want to go.
- I miss having a recycling bin in the mailroom, lol.
